Projects and Campaigns

OR San Diego is pleased to present the Jewish public a few of our ongoing and upcoming Jewish outreach projects.

Project Torah

PROJECT TORAH

TorahWhile we will later stress the importance of Torah learning itself in the role of outreach, we must not forget that the most important and vital of all is the furtherance of Jewish education through learning Torah. Therefore, we will split up PROJECT TORAH into two seperate categories; classes and chavrutot (study partners)

Classes: Are you a good public speaker? Have you ever wanted to teach yet never knew if people would attend?

OR San Diego is here to help! Anyone who meets the requirements discussed in the "About Us" section, is encouraged to give classes as often as they are able to, whether it be once, weekly, monthly etc., through OR San Diego's Project Torah. Classes may include, for example, areas of Jewish learning such as Tanach, Talmud, Halacha, Chassidut, Mussar, etc. and will be posted online on our classes page.

Study Partner/Group : Have you ever wanted to review something you have learned, yet never found the oppurtunity to do so? Have you ever wanted to learn Torah one-one-one or in a small, personal group, but just couldn't find anyone interested?

OR San Diego has the solution for you! Just submit to us what you would like to learn, and we will match you with someone who shares the same interest. We encourage anyone who wants to learn to please contact us and join Project Torah!

What should I learn? We recommend books that currently have Hebrew-English editions in print, such as Tanach, Talmud, Kitzur Shulchan Aruch (Code of Jewish Law), the books of the Ramchal (Messilat Yesharim - The Path of the Just and Derech Hashem - The Way of G-d) etc. If you are looking for something specific, or just want ideas, please feel free to contact us, and an OR staff member will be more than happy to assist you.

Project Light - Shabbat Candle Campaign

For Women and Girls!

PROJECT LIGHT

LightShabbat Candles : Are you prepared to step up and carry the banner of Judaism high in our dark generation? Are you ready to help illuminate San Diego with the light of Shabbat?

Then we encourage you to take part in Project Light! Every Friday afternoon, you have the oppurtunity to reach out to your fellow sisters in your own unique fashion. Hand out Shabbat candles and a newsletter from OR San Diego to Jewish woman that you will meet at whatever location you choose to visit. In the past, we have visited San Diego's various malls, and have welcomed the young Israelis working there to our community, with their own Shabbat candle-lighting kit, and perhaps even an invitation to an authentic Shabbat meal.

As of now, the newsletter will be suppilied by OR San Diego via email to whoever wishes to distribute it, although we ask that each individual group/chapter aquires there own Shabbat candles, until we are able to sponsor them.

For more information about Project Light, please contact our Director of Girls Programming, Alexi Glovinsky.
