From Thought to Action - PARASHAH/WEEKLY TORAH PORTION
In this week's Torah Portion, we meet our famous forefather Avraham - arguably the greatest revolutionary in the history of the world. Avraham broke the news to the world that there is One & only One G-d. Up until Avraham, idols were worshiped; the sun the moon and the stars as well. The 'Midrash' describes one of the ways Avraham came to his realization of monotheism at a young age.... More >>
Sci-Fi - The Origins of Judaism from the U.S.S Voyager - CREATIVE TORAH ESSAYS
“Hmm…” Lt. Rezit sat back in his chair and stared at the stars. He always sat in this direction for modesty reasons, but it also allowed him the satisfaction of realizing his dream day after day. He thought about how large the galaxy was, so large that even after multiple shortcuts, they were still many decades away from home. And to imagine, that there were many galaxies like this in the universe, and areas of space with nothing in them at all. The majestics of it just hit him, and he was filled with awe for the One who had created them all. To think that He, He who had created every galaxy, every nebula, every micron of dark matter, not to mention every single parallel universe, and even every Q, He wanted to be served by, of all things, man. Man who sinned, man who often put their own pursuits before the important ones, man who not only sinned, but chased after sin. But regardless, man was whom G-d chose to serve Him, asking him to repent and come close to Him.
The idea was frightening, when one thought about it. The fact that a person could cause his own salvation, without needed any type of medium, any type of indirect path. Just by trying his best to serve G-d the way He asked, with the ability to repent if he messed up, which he inevitably did. That, in it of itself, was the greatest gift. By all rights, G-d should just destroy man the first time he sins. How dare he go against the One who created him and put him on this world? But no, G-d says, come back to me and repent. As the verse states, “It is not in the heavens, that you would say ‘Who’ll ascend to the heavens and bring it down?’ It is not in the depths of the ocean, that you would say, ‘Who’ll go to the depths and bring it up for us?’ But the matter is very close to you, in your mouths and in your hearts, that you may do it.” More >>
